Be careful of Amnesia and Affluence

by on March 23, 2010

After leafleting in the morning Justin Moffatt led a devotional on Deuteronomy 6:10-12. This passage warns us of 2 dangers:

At times we are spiritually dry and find it hard to muster up love and affection. To overcome this we need to work hard at the spiritual discipline of memory, the memory of God’s gracious and redemptive work of the past. Remembering what God has done will affect how will live now and hiw we see the future.

The other danger in living in Sydney is our affluence. We live for the moment and enjoy the good things that Sydney provides but forget that it is God who provides all good things. We need to remember the Giver, not the gifts.

In response to God’s word we sang Come Thou Fount and took communion in remembrance of Jesus death and ressurrection from an old and historically significant communion silver.

We bury love. Forgetfulness grows over it like grass. -Alexander Smith

Prayer point: Please pray that the mission team will have good conversation as we go out for street evangelism at 12:00. Pray that seeds will be planted and that some might be saved.
