Jesus is for all ages!

Free BBQ!

Yesterday we covered all ages with:

  • a toddler playgroup in the morning, complete with face painting, singing and parachute games for the kids, and a special morning tea for the mums. It was heartening to see so many mums stick around and chat – even though they don’t normally have a Bible talk of any kind at playgroup, they weren’t put off at all when Elissa gave a short talk about how much God loves us.
  • a visit to the Southern Cross retirement village, where David gave a talk and Marion (our eldest mission team member, in her 80s!) gave her testimony.  There were quite a few people away on trips for Seniors Week, but from all accounts the residents who were there appreciated the visit.
  • a community BBQ for anyone and everyone in the Department of Housing common area.  Heaps of kids, young parents and older residents came along for some free food and a chat.  Some of our guys played basketball with local kids, there was more face painting, and lots of people were keen to find out more about the church.  I was encouraged to see some team members just quietly doing wonderful acts of service, like picking up bagfuls of rubbish that was scattered around the common area.  Or like hanging out with the bunch of teenage boys who were staying at a distance across the road from the BBQ, engaging them in conversation about Jesus.  It was also exciting that a lot of St Paul’s South Coogee people came along to the BBQ, as they are the ones who will be building these relationships long-term.

We had a much needed day off today!  We’re gearing up for a jam-packed end to mission week, with a scripture assembly, a women’s dessert night, a men’s breakfast, kids club, youth group, a market day and church on Sunday – as well as more doorknocking of course!  Please pray that we would have the stamina to finish well and to keep having these great conversations about Jesus.
