Kids aplenty at Ashbury

by on March 27, 2011

“I don’t know how you feel about kids and youth ministry…but that’s basically us.” Mark Layson, minister at St Matts Ashbury, reminded our team this morning that a huge focus of this small church is children. Kids outnumber the adults at the 10am gathering most weeks, with about 60 kids to 50 adults. So naturally a big part of our mission at Ashbury this week will be working with kids and families.

There’s an age gap, however, with no one between the ages of 12-29 at St Matts. This is usually the age group that would be heavily involved with kids and youth ministry! We are glad to be able to give a break to the mums and dads who normally teach Sunday school, allowing them to bring their friends to church and sit in for the whole service.

The theme for the week is ‘love your neighbour’, kicking off with church this morning and a big street party this afternoon. Please pray the rain would hold off, and that we’d be able to help the people at St Matts show God’s love to the community in Ashbury.
